Apple’s long-rumored mixed reality headset will be a game-changer, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
Writing by means of a medium post, Kuo said that he expects Apple to announce the new headset in January of next year, although it isn’t yet known when a release will take place.
Kuo believes that while Apple continues to focus on augmented reality, it’s the use of a new mixed reality capability that will make the headset a game-changer once it is released to the market. It’s said that gaming and multimedia enjoyment capabilities will be behind strong performance and demand.
Although Apple has continuously reiterated its focus on AR, I believe Apple AR/MR supporting video see-thru could also offer an exceptional immersive experience. Therefore, the launch of Apple AR/MR will additionally improve the demand for immersive gaming/multimedia entertainment.
Kuo goes on to say that the headset will be “the a lot of complicated product Apple has ever designed,” with lots of vendors involved in getting the product onto store shelves. That process is expected to be a costly one as well, with previous rumors suggesting the headset could sell for upwards of $3,000. That would make it a lot more costly than Apple’s iPad, iPhone, and lots of Mac products.
Some had hoped that Apple would announce the mixed reality headset during the WWDC22 event earlier this month, but that didn’t happen despite the likely requirement for developers to be able to produce apps for the product.
