The newly released iphone 13 pro and iphone 13 pro Max pack an impressive ultrawide camera and its new macro mode is a pretty sweet trick.
But while it can be used to take pictures of objects in ways other iPhones can’t, we didn’t expect it to become a medical tool as well. but now it has.
A LinkedIn post by ophthalmologist Dr Tommy Korn shows him using an iphone 13 pro Max to check on patients’ eyes using the macro camera functionality. It’s something older iPhones simply can’t do, and it’s remarkable to see in action.
Been using the iphone 13 pro Max for MACRO eye photos this week. Impressed. will innovate patient eye care & telemedicine. forward to seeing where it goes… photos are from healing a resolving abrasion in a cornea transplant. permission was obtained to use photos. PS: this “Pro camera” includes a telephone app too!
The macro mode has been used by people to take ultra close-up images of various things online over the last week, but this is the first time we’ve seen the camera used in such a way. With Apple already keen to help in the world of health via its Apple Watch, it’s likely only a matter of time before iPhones become vital to helping out, too.
In at least one way, iphone 13 pro and iphone 13 pro Max already are.
