Huawei P20 pro and P20 are the company’s most current flagships in the P series. The P series from Huawei has been known to push the boundaries in terms of the camera, at least among’s the company’s own smartphones. The P series flagships were one of the first adopters of dual cam setups which is now quite a trend. If you thought Huawei was going to stop there, they didn’t. After two cameras on the back, it only made logical sense for the company to put three this time. You’d be forgiven to think that it is nothing but a marketing gimmick. I had similar thoughts, but it may not just be a gimmick. According to DxOMark and some early impressions, the Huawei P20 pro cam looks to be the best in class. only time will tell if it undoubtedly is.
DxOMark gave the Huawei P20 Pro, which has three cam sensors on the back, a whopping score of 109. This is the highest score ever that the web site has ever given to a smartphone camera. The second highest rating, with a difference of full 7 points is 102. This is given to the Huawei P20. In case you didn’t realize, that’s still a big difference. The Samsung Galaxy S9 plus has a rating of 99 while the Pixel 2/XL had managed 98. Judging by the ratings the P20 and especially the P20 pro cam genuinely need to be revolutionary. If you were betting that a Chinese maker will one day surpass the likes of Google, Samsung, and Apple in terms of image quality, you just might get rich.
Although, let’s be clear that while DxOMark ratings are good for creating a splash in the market, they’re not the absolute benchmark. It’d be hard to say whether the scores are unbiased, whether there was or wasn’t an exchange of currency involved. only real world tests will figure out if the devices should have the ratings.
While we cannot comment on the image quality, we can tell that Huawei has made some improvements in the overall cam interface. As you can see in the screenshots below, the interface is a lot more like the iOS cam app now, a trend that just about every Android OEM has been following with Samsung and now Huawei being the current followers. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing though considering that apparently, this is what lots of users find much easier and simpler to use. instead of tapping on different icons at the top to switch between various cam modes you now have to swipe ideal and left. It’s certainly much easier than tapping, especially with the new 18:9 displays. Swipe all the way to the ideal and you’ll find those other amazing modes like HDR, Light painting, pro mode, etc.

These changes may or may not arrive on other devices with an update to EMUI 8.1. However, you don’t have to wait for an update to find out. XDA senior Member LastStandingDroid was able to get his hands on a leaked firmware from the Huawei P20 pro which is an EMUI 8.1 firmware based on Android 8.1. He managed to pull out the stock Huawei P20 pro themes from the firmware and also the cam app. We’ve already made the Huawei P20 wallpapers and Huawei P20 themes available for you to download.
